📖 Read: A surprise for Mum أقرأ

Hello! My name is Rayen and I live in Sousse with my family. Yesterday was Mother’s Day.

In the morning, my sister Mariem and I wanted to surprise Mum. Dad helped us. We cleaned the living room and we tidied our bedrooms. Then we cooked a small lunch: pasta and salad. Mariem painted a cute card with red flowers on it. I wrapped our presents: a bottle of perfume and a nice blue handbag. Dad gave Mum a silver necklace.

At one o’clock, Mum opened the door. She looked at the table and she was very surprised! She opened the presents and she smiled. She loved the card. Then she hugged us and kissed us.

In the afternoon, we played a game together and we watched a film. It was a wonderful day!

🧩 Grammar القواعد

We use the simple past for actions that finished in the past: yesterday, last Sunday, in 2024…

For regular verbs, we add -ed to the verb. It is the same for all subjects: I played, she played, we played.

Spelling: love ➡️ loved (verb ends in -e: add -d) · tidy ➡️ tidied (consonant + y: -ied) · hug ➡️ hugged, wrap ➡️ wrapped (short verb: double the last letter).

Some verbs are irregular: give ➡️ gave, be ➡️ was / were. We study them in the next lesson.

نستعمل الماضي البسيط لأحداث انتهت في الماضي. مع الأفعال المنتظمة نضيف ed- إلى الفعل مع كلّ الضمائر، وننطقها /t/ أو /d/ أو /ɪd/.
